New Brass & Silver Earring Design

I haven’t used my jeweler’s saw in years for anything other than cutting a straight line to make another design.

But not this week!

A few weeks ago I was watching a new show on Apple TV called The Morning Show with Reece Witherspoon and Jennifer Anniston.

Jennifer’s character was wearing a gorgeous pair of gold earrings in one of the episodes, and I was inspired to make these layered brass earrings with sterling silver accents.

I think the trick to making brass earrings resemble gold is in the finish you choose and the thinness of the metal. Jennifer’s earrings were very lightweight and thin, and well, you really don’t see anyone wearing thick gold earrings unless they are hoops, and small ones at that.

So, I started working more with brass as a result of that show, and also because the price of silver has skyrocketed over the past year.

Actually, the price of silver has sort of gotten me out of my creative slump and I’m excited about making more mixed metal pieces. I won’t use copper since it smells terrible after a while. I’ve been using bronze for years and love it, but something now about brass and this new finish is making my imagination soar!

While I was using my saw last week, I cut off the very tip of my thumb. The skin is growing back but man, it was painful trying to get out the rest of my orders! Bandages don’t stay on the tip of the thumb very securely at ALL!

In other news, I was working on my website this weekend and crashed it when I uploaded a plug-in. It crashed so bad that I’ve had to start over again. That’s really ok, since I had the blog posts saved, just not the photos. I’ll be working on that this week as I can.

Ok, that’s my update. I am going to TRY and write at least 3 times a week moving forward.

Here’s hoping!
